DOCTORS OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

DVM

Charles R. Johnson

Dr. Charles Johnson is a 1983 graduate of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and founded the Animal Medical Center of Dubois County in 1996. His favorite part of practice is developing life-long relationships with clients by providing excellent care for their pets. He is living the dream by getting to work with the best staff imaginable, with many long-term employees. His wife Melinda and four daughters have all “grown up” in the practice and are still instrumental as employees and advisors. Outside veterinary medicine, Dr Johnson is a Catholic deacon and enjoys gardening, pie making, and devising ways to keep his three large dogs and other smaller critters out of his garden!

Lori Mehringer

Dr. Mehringer graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995 and joined the practice in 2001. Her favorite part of working here is building relationships with clients and their animals. Dr. Mehringer loves that each day is different and that there are always new things to learn. She lives in Jasper with her husband Todd. Dr. Mehringer has three sons: Kyle, Nathan, and Brandon. She has a beagle named Bella and two cats, Mimi and Onyx. Her hobbies include gardening, working outside, spending time with family, walking/ hiking, and traveling to visit her kids.

Molly Johnson

Dr. Molly has worked with us as a small animal veterinarian since her graduation from Purdue University in May of 2017. She has a passion for providing personalized veterinary care to her patients in all stages of life, but especially to her senior and geriatric patients. Dr. Molly is also certified in canine rehabilitation and strives to help patients live comfortable and active lives. Her favorite part of working at the AMC is the family-like atmosphere between the employees, clients, and patients. She looks forward to continuing to provide quality veterinary medicine to this community and growing this family-owned business.

Kelsie Dougherty

Hello! I'm Dr. Kelsie Dougherty, I started at the AMC in 2024 after moving from North Carolina. I have 2 emus named Blue and White, a German Shepherd named Kaijou, a colony of Blue Baboon tarantulas, and a Sailfin Dragon named Weber. Working at the AMC has been a great way to get to know people here in Jasper. The team here is amazing to work with and I could not ask for better clients or patients. My personal interests are in exotic animals, especially small mammals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and rats. I also love seeing our other exotics - including backyard poultry, reptiles, and fish.

Sara Spath

Sara lives in Tell City with her husband Derek and son Kegan. They have two crazy dogs, a Chihuahua mix named Potato and a Boston Terrier named Chip, that are slightly spoiled. When Sara is not at work she likes to spend her down time with family, outdoors or reading a good book. She began her career at Animal Medical Center in 1999 while in high school. Then went on to graduate with a degree in Veterinary Technology from Morehead State University and returned in 2002. She loves interacting with clients and patients.

Jessica Bohnert

Jessica joined the clinic in 2016. Her favorite part of working at AMC is getting to form lasting bonds with patients and clients. She currently lives in Huntingburg with her husband, Jayson. They have one fur baby, a husky named Mishka. In her free time, Jessica enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and camping.

Chloe Knieriem

Chloe has worked at AMC throughout her life, from kennel staff in high school to a full time registered veterinary technician. Her favorite part of working at AMC is using a multimodal approach to help manage patient’s inflammation and pain. Chloe and her husband Cody live in Loogootee with their two dogs and three cats. In her free-time, Chloe likes to read, exercise, and spend time with her family.

Kayla Hanebutt

Kayla graduated from the veterinary technology program and Owensboro Community and Technical College in 2020 and has been with AMC since 2022. She loves unwinding with a good book, TV show or video game. She lives with her boyfriend, Corey and their two cats, Benji and Alfie. Her favorite thing about working at AMC is her team members. Even on the more difficult days, she can always count on her team for support and a smile!

Nikki DeKemper

Nikki started working at AMC in 2020. She has a dog named Lola and 2 cats named Jake and JB. Her favorite part about working is getting to meet clients along with their furbabies. She loves learning and working with each pet’s personality. In her spare time, she likes to fish, attend concerts, spend time with family, and vacation at the beach

Veterinary Assistant

Alex Clem

Alex has always been an animal lover be it birds, skunks, chickens, or dogs. Before working with dogs and cats, Alex worked at the Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Rehabilitation Center. In this position he was responsible for, among other things, rehabbing injured and orphaned raptors. He developed a passion for the rehabilitation, and eventual release, of these majestic animals. Before working at Animal Medial Center, Alex spent nearly five years working at a small animal clinic in Louisville, KY before returning to his hometown of Jasper. He currently lives in town with his “infamous” great pyrenees King, and enjoys traveling, caving, and playing guitar in his free time. He’s was excited to join our team in 2025 and looks forward to meeting our clients and their fur-babies

Nicole Murphy

Nicole started working at AMC in 2025. Her and her husband, Devin have two amazing puppies, Ruby and Sophie. Her favorite part of working at the clinic is getting to help animals while working with a fun team. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crafting, and reading.

Josie Swaney

Josie started working at AMC in 2023. She has two dogs; one pug named Juniper and a Rough collie named Willow. She also has four guinea pigs and one rabbit. Josie’s favorite part about working at the AMC is getting to work with the exotic animals that come in. In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking, baking, painting, and hanging out with her pets.

Mackenzie Lichlyter

Mackenzie Lichlyter started working at AMC in February of 2025. Her favorite part of working at AMC is being able to do what she loves which is working with animals, as well as the relationships it has allowed her to form with patients, clients, and coworkers. She has 2 dogs, and lots of outdoor cats at her house and her family farm. Sam is a Cavachon and is around 14 years old. Ollie is a Springerdoodle and is 2 years old. The cats range from 7 all the way down to 1-2 years old. This fall, Mackenzie will be attending Purdue University to major in AnimalScience on the Pre-Veterinary Medicine track

Makenzie Buchta

Makenzie Buchta has been a part of the clinic team since April of 2022. Her favorite part about working at AMC is the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience and develop skills she can implement in her future career, along with being surrounded by such a positive group of people! She is currently attending Murray State University majoring in Pre-Veterinary Science in hopes to apply to vet school in the next few years. In her free time she enjoys rodeoing and hanging out with friends. She has a mini Aussie, a Border Collie mix, four cats, and four horses.

Shelly Sweeney

Shelly has been with Animal Medical Center since February of 2020. She moved to Jasper in December of 2019 from Hobart Indiana. She has been married for 31 years and has 2 kids , 1 grandchild and 1 son-n-law. Shelly loves gardening, thrifting and crafting in her free time. Her favorite thing about working at Animal Medical Center is the compassion the staff has for the animals and family feel they have for one another.

Abbie Kemper

Abbie has been a Veterinary Receptionist/Assistant at AMC since April 2019. She lives in Jasper with her husband Fernando, daughter Saige, and their dog Max. Her favorite thing about working at Animal Medical Center is the amazing people she gets to see each day, whether it be her fellow employees or our amazing clients

Mary Pearson

Mary has worked in the animal care field for most of her life. She worked at the Humane Society in southern Texas and in Kansas as a supervisor in the intake department. She earned a veterinarian assistant degree in the year 2000 and worked in a veterinarian’s office for over 10 years in Indianapolis. She has two dogs and three cats at home and likes to stay busy. Mary thinks that The Animal Care Center is one of the best places she has worked. Everyone at The Animal Care Center are very helpful and work great together as a team. They really care about their patients and their owners
Receptionist

Jane Jackson

Jane currently lives in Jasper. Although she's working to be a writer, she happily joined the team as a she loves all animals and living things. Jane also works at DCBroadcasting Inc. and volunteers at the Midwest Writer's Guild in Evansville. In her free time, Jane likes writing, reading, drawing, and spending time with her two cats, friends and family.
Receptionist

Melinda Johnson

Melinda married Charles R. Johnson DVM in 1990. They soon became parents to 4 daughters. In 1996 Animal Medical Center was dreamt, created and built. Melinda worked at AMC for a few years then graduated with a degree in nursing. Melinda returned to AMC in March 2026 and will be the receptionist for a new business, AMC rehabilitation & pain management. Melinda and Charlie enjoy spending time with their 6 grandsons and their dogs, Grady, Greta and Hattie. Melinda enjoys working in the positive atmosphere at AMC and puppies!
Kennel Assistant

Dominique Perez

As someone who truly loves animals, Dominique Perez works as a kennel worker at the Animal Medical Center of Dubois. He takes pride in caring for animals and treats them with the respect and compassion they deserve.

Dominique is currently in high school and plans to pursue a career as a veterinary technician, with the goal of helping animals all over the world.

In his free time, Dominique enjoys playing video games like Stray, a story-driven game about a cat. He also loves drawing cats and anything else that comes to mind, as well as spending time with his own cat, Macaroni—whose birthday is on Halloween!

Kennel Assistant

Trinity Foll

Trinity Foll started working at Animal Medical Center in 2025 as a kennel walker. Her favorite thing about working at AMC is helping with all the animals and learning all about how she can further her career with animals. She has 4 dogs she loves spending her time with them too. She is involved in FFA and loves art, specifically drawing. She is always interested in what else is out there, as long as it involves cute creatures!

Elyse Brown

Elyse Brown started working at Animal medical center in 2025 as a kennel walker. Her favorite thing about working at AMC is helping all the animals in need and learning from everyone. She has 4 dogs and 6 cats, she also enjoys taking care of them too. She is involved in choir and loves the beach specifically dolphins. She tries her best no matter what.
